  • Who is behind PhiloWiki?
PhiloWiki was created by members of Triangle Philosophy, a group of argumentative people who regularly meet in and around Raleigh, NC (part of Research Triangle Park).
  • Why was PhiloWiki created?
The Triangle Philosophers noticed that lots of interesting discussions (by us and by others) are lost forever. Further, online discussion boards seem to keep repeating the same interesting arguments amidst many other superfluous messages. Therefore, PhiloWiki was created to eliminate the repetitive nature of philosophical debates. Also, we wanted a place to build up resource lists for our arguments.
  • What makes PhiloWiki different?
We are trying to apply the incremental improvement mechanism inherent in Wikis to the admittedly amorphous world of philosophical debate. We hope that by developing and improving our guidelines on contributing, we can develop a process to facilitate incremental improvement of philosophical arguments.
  • What are the book reviews?
We have noticed that many interesting books (political, religious, philosophical) can be boiled down to a list of familiar and new arguments. Our book reviews are aimed at analyzing selected books and highlighting their arguments.
  • How can I contribute?
We welcome any and all help with the site - just hop on in!
  • How can I add a less objective, more personal essay on my own beliefs?
If you want to add more personal essays on your own views, create the essays in sections on your own account page. If you like, add links to your personal page (and section) from corresponding PhiloWiki pages. Please indicate that this is a link to a personal view by following the example of this page.
  • What areas need the most work?
All areas need a lot of work! Since many of the Triangle Philosophy discussions have been highly-charged religious debates, the Philosophy of religion and Philosophy of science sections are the most developed (with lots more to do).
  • Where are sections on epistemology, aesthetics, ontology, etc.?
We are trying to avoid big philosophy terms. We probably have the sections you are looking for under friendlier names.
